Nutella Banana Bread in the Air Fryer

Today’s recipe is Nutella banana bread made in the air fryer. This version came after many people enjoyed a chocolate and walnut banana bread, making this variation a natural next step.

Preparing the Bananas

Start by peeling ripe bananas and placing them into a large bowl. Even if the bananas are not overly ripe, they will still work well for this recipe. Before mashing, remove any stringy bits from the bananas.

Mash the bananas thoroughly using a fork, potato masher, or even your hands. Make sure to break down all large pieces so the banana flavor is evenly distributed and there are no lumps in the mixture.

Mixing the Wet Ingredients

Add a room-temperature egg to the mashed bananas and blend it in well. If the egg is cold, placing it in warm water for about ten minutes will help bring it to room temperature.

Once combined, add vanilla extract, a pinch of salt, neutral oil, and sour cream. The sour cream helps keep the bread moist. Greek yogurt can be used as an alternative. The slight sourness helps activate the rising agents and improves the texture of the bread. Stir everything together until smooth.

Adding Flavor and Sweetness

Cinnamon is added next and mixed into the wet ingredients so the fats can help bring out its flavor. Brown sugar is then stirred in, with dark brown sugar providing a richer taste, though light brown sugar can also be used.

Incorporating the Dry Ingredients

Flour, baking soda, and baking powder are added directly on top of the wet ingredients. Lightly stirring them together before fully mixing helps everything combine evenly without needing a separate bowl.Mix until no large pockets of flour remain. A few small streaks are fine.

Nutella, Nuts, and Chocolate

To enhance the Nutella flavor, chopped hazelnuts and chocolate chips are folded into the batter. Dark chocolate chips are used here, but any variety can be substituted.

Nutella is added as a swirl rather than fully mixed in. It should be warmed slightly until runny, but not heated in its original jar due to the metal lid. Measure the Nutella into a separate container and warm it briefly until pourable.

Layering the Batter

This recipe makes two smaller loaves, though a single larger loaf can also be made if the air fryer allows. Begin by adding a portion of the batter into each loaf tin. Drizzle Nutella over the batter and gently swirl it through. Top with the remaining batter, smooth the surface, then drizzle the remaining Nutella on top and swirl again to create ripples throughout the bread.

Air Fryer Baking Instructions

Preheat the air fryer to a baking temperature and use the bake setting. If the air fryer only fits one loaf tin at a time, bake the loaves separately.

Smaller loaves take approximately half an hour to bake, while a larger loaf will require closer to an hour. The bread is done when the internal temperature reaches doneness and the center is fully set.

If baking in a conventional oven, additional baking time will be required.

Cooling and Serving

Allow the banana bread to cool in the tin briefly before running a knife around the edges and removing it. Let it cool completely before slicing, if possible.

The finished bread has a soft texture with visible Nutella swirls throughout, making it rich and flavorful once sliced.
